Alright mr. atleasti'mnotarepublican, what makes you think that I am? For the record, I'm registered as an Independant! Meaning, that I am an 'independant' voter. I don't associate myself with either of the bigger political parties. This time around, my vote counted and Tennessee was won by McCain but not on the national level.

Eric, right off the bat, it makes no difference to me if you are a Martian or not. Eric, I've always liked you.. no matter what color you are or not. Let me assure you that the statement above, while in essence is a racial slur, it is not intended as an attack on anyone here. These are not "PC" forums but it is also not, and I repeat NOT a racist slanderous attack against anyone here. While it's not necessarily something that anyone with political aspariations would condone, it is something that's said here. Neither of you live here in Tennessee, so let me explain how it works here. For the "it's racist" thought or comment to even be made, well it's understood how it could be viewed by someone not from here given how many areas of the country (even in TN) would see it that way, especially how the media gets into a feeding frenzy about stuff similar.

The other part of "I heard that joke here multiple times" can be finished off with some of the very same black guys that I work with on a daily basis making the same slurs. This is what was told to me by my black *friends* at work, "We're gonna change your last name to (one of theirs.. implying I would be their slave)." Then the other's piped in, "Did you get the meeting request today? (I say what meeting request are you guys talking about.. hearing the tone in their voice they are about to lay a good one on me.) Yeah, it's the meeting where we hand out new jobs to you white folk." (we all get a laugh out of it, but I said that if it were anyone else I might take offence to that. we all laugh again.) "Yeah, we think you're new job should be our cleaning boy." This is absolutely true but while it did sorta aggravate me, I know the guys and just over looked the comments becuase I know that they never intended to attack or hurt me. Sure, I could have run into HR and made a big stink.. but that's not any different for me as it would be for them.

Now.. while you may not belive me.. I don't think you have ever known me to lie about anything in these forums. Eric, if in fact you are black, if the initial statement above offended you, then I will apologize as you are not from here. People here really do talk like that amoungst themselves. This was what was said to me at work. We constantly rag each other and try to get a rise sometimes. Again, the only part of the 'joke/slur' above that was mentioned at work was the rose garden, not the nigger rigged part.

Now, secondly, I grew up poor. I lived in Kentucky on racially mixed streets where racial tensions were always present. One of my best friends was a kid named Adam Cavit from Rockford, Illinios. He was black and I never looked at him any differently than anyone else. I work with my fellow black workers here and trust some of them more so than any of the whites I work with here. The maintenance guys would always have Cooper come back (a black guy) that would call them lazy ass honkies and he'd be called a sorry nigger) but again.. from someone that doesn't live here, you don't view it the same way. Bubba knows so much more about the other things that I will not mention how blacks have been some of our closest family members etc. So.. I don't wanna here any other "PC" comments about these forums are racist etc. Slayer or Eric, how many other times have you heard any other racial comments about other races here? Just as often about anyone else as the 'nigger' comment above. While, in hindsight if it offened one of our friends here in the context it was presented, then I personally apologize for what it's worth. I do not want anyone to *honestly* feel that if you are black or whatever.. that you would not be welcomed here for any reason.. even if something offends you in a posting. It makes me aggravated that I feel compelled to write something above to explain it because, especially to you Eric, I would never want you to think anything differently of myself or my relative. Yes, we do have racist relatives in my family, but that doesn't mean everyone is or even that all of TN is.

Again, there's so much more that goes on in this state that taken out of context in a posting wouldn't make much sense to you. Now, Slayer, I'm gonna say what's on my mind but I know it's a mistake before I post it. As long as you've known me and Bubba.. if you honestly meant what you wrote, that's really fuck'n narrow minded to think it was something more to the posting other than what it was. It was a tacky but mildly humorous racial slur. We, in this state, do not take offense so easily when among friends. Sure.. I wouldn't run down to Memphis and yell out racial slurs. Just like I wouldn't have gone to another web site where I didn't feel that I knew people here enough to laugh a little and pass on the joke. Hey, I didn't like the jokes at work about the white meeting etc.. but I know the people that said it were not doing anything other than just trying to poke at me. All three of those black guys are in their 40's or older.. and just like Cooper.. they tease and get teased but they've never used the word 'nigger' and I've never used that word with them. There have been jokes passed about Mexicans and Cubains etc.. but I guess it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Just like you said, it's not worth the debate and I agreed with you. It wasn't intended to hit or hurt but if it did, I will take the responsibility for it. Eric, again, if you are in fact black I don't look at you any differently than the day I first met you as Greenskull. I would like to think that you still feel welcomed here and even if you choose not to return, I would still consider you as much as a friend in the years I have known you as just text on my screen. The primary reason I attempted to explain my feelings is that sometimes I don't mind being misunderstood.. other times it gets under my skin to be labeled an ignorant stupid hick. As I had stated above. I knew the original post by Bubba was harmless and meant only as a joke. I also realize that the way people talk or the jokes people tell can be concidered a norm in the area that they grew up in. But for any state, or Country, or world to move, ahead in a possitive direction,the hate has to stop. The racism has to stop, as well as the greed. This will never happen on a large scale at one time. We need to take baby steps. Meaning that this world can only improve one person at a time. ANd we as individuals have to be the ones to help move it in the right directions.
I would of never commented on this if it would of been in the private forums. Everyone knows everyone very close there and I know noone is black and could take personal offense to the slur. But when I saw it posted in the Public forums. I said to myself, I sure hope we dont have any black friends that visit these forums.There are 2 things that made me post on this today. ANd believe it or not, Eric saying he was black wasnt the first reason but it was the 2nd. The first was because of a speech I heard last night that I will tell next.

My daughters Cross Country banquet was last night. There Coach is a great man, he was a great teacher for years(Sociology), and very much a great speaker. Hes now retired from teaching but still Coaches and runs with the kids at Age 60. At the banquet he gave a speech on obamma, his childhood and racism and how it all tied into Cross Country. He talked about how Racism can be in so many differnt forms , towards so may differnt people. He talked about how as a kid his Dad took his family down to Pensacola, Florida to visit some park for a vacation. The trafic getting into the park was backed up and the park ranger who was manning the gate who he described as a very strong itimidating person who wore the dark shades and a drill sargents hat. He said many people were out of there cars talking while they were waiting for the road to reopen and one of the familys in front of him as the ranger if they have any problems with the colored folk around here. The ranger replied with a mean stare. No not to much. The main problem we have is from you Northerners who come down to are neck of the woods. The Coaches Dad at that time turned his car around knowing they were not wanted and headed back up to Minnesota. He talked about how sure he was that by the time he was a adult that racism would know longer be around. But that in fact it still is and we need to work one person at a time to make this world a better place. Im a bad story teller and prolly missed most the details. But in short his speech on racism and erics posting, made me feel compelled to do make my stand or do my part and share my thoughts on this.

Having black friends or for that matter having black friends that make racial slurs towards whites in a joking matter doesnt make it acceptable. I understand that where your from its all good,and I do respect that. I guess what I am trying to say. Is we need to remember that with a internet forum, We are all from differnt parts of the United states. And what a norm for one part of the US may not be for another part of the U.S.. SO when you post on a online forum, you need to be conscience of all the differnt people that may be reading your posts.We all just need to make the small steps to make this world a better place to live in.

But you did make the comment you dont like being thought of as a hick. I remember when I first got to hear your voice and your accent, I told you you reminded me of the radio comedian ROY D. Mercer.That use to bother the hell out of you because Roy sounds like some Dumb Southern hick. It took me awhile but I finally understood that I shouldnt be giving you shit about sounding like him. I myself am far from being a saint, hell ive made my share of mistakes. As a kid I thought of black people as very low on the totem scale. As a teenager I thought all gays deserved to get some sense knocked into them(I never did any knocking though) But I will say, I had hate towards them. But as I get older, my views on life have changed. Im finally beginning to understand, and im always trying to take the next step to make myself a better person.
EIn I hold you and Bubba with the highest of respect. You guys are a all things cool in my book. I think we just have a misunderstanding on how people from differnt areas take things a little differntly. And when we post in a online forum, we need to be a little more careful on what we say. Peace.

It's kinda ironic when I think about this evening.. I was still at work and someone stops by asking, "What the heck are you still doing at work? Something must be big to keep you here this late." Well get got into the parking lot and I'm talking about what was said by the 3 black guys and what was posted.. what was on my mind being taken out of context and then etc. etc. He asked what it was that was posted on the forums.. I said what it was..and indicated the last part was "jerry rigged" and that I had made probably even worse comments to get my point across in the explination. He says, "Sometimes you have to talk about things in a worse way for people to really understand how you feel. Even sometimes you have to make things worse for a time to bury it or resolve it." This was from one of the best managers in the entire plant.. everyone respects him... he's the person I trust more than any other person I can think of.. and he's black to make my point. I've been to his house and he's been to my house. When he first met me.. he loaned me his truck to move furniture and didn't even ask me to put gas back in it. I didn't even ask for his truck, I offered to pay him to help me move some stuff (I'd just graduated from college and gotten married.. none of my contacts lived close enough to help me move some stuff).. but he just gave me his keys and said be careful in Memphis.

Again, while I agree with your point about the baby steps.. I think the election as a whole is a giant leap. I'm sure you've seen the news with the 2 white kids that threatened to kill Obama and several blacks if he was elected. That's just stupid hicks for you. Well as i stated in my last post, I am interested in the way people think and social experiments.As I see it this was a classic case of the snowball effect.
Obviously I'm not racist, well obvious to me at least.
Racisim is an undeniable problem in the U.S., not just white racist either, there are black racist too.BUt to be completly honest, I really don't see alot happening to change that any time soon.The only time racism gets any kinda attention is when it boils over, and of course by then it's too late.


I would write more but I abhor typing.Plus I have to get up early tommorow and leave my own home because of a stupid arrogant hick judge, which i have been having to do for the last 2 months, which is one reason i dont game as much as before on the week-ends, I also have to work tommorow night and i need my beauty sleep

Actually no I didnt. But I am off to bed now. I was gonna pop on vent to see if you were playing but then it dawned on me, I dont have vent installed on my computer since I reformatted it last week. I was still working on my cousins computer at the time but I said I'll go check if EIn is on the server, And if he is I'll install vent and go play. SO I hopped on the server and played 1 round of broadcast and you were not on. SO I went back to my computer project.it was somewhere between 10:45-11:15 that I popped on.
My Cousins computer is back in tip top shape now, so my weekend project is done. I will reinstall vent tomorrow morning and will be playing COD4 periodicly throughout the afternoon ond definatly at night time.

P.S. I dont think the forums clock remembered to turn its clock back a hour. It says I posted at 2:55 am. but its actually 1:55 Pm.
