Works like this if I'm not mistaken:
Minor Runes: +1 to (said) attribute without penalty
Major Runes: +2 to (said) attribute - 50 (or specified amount) from health
Superior Runes: +3 to (said) attribute (My Superior Rune of Vigor mentions nothing about taking away anything.. just Maxes health. But my Major Rune of Curses said -50 to health in the description).
So.. if you scroll only said Maxes Swordsmanship.. I'd be willing to risk applying it without worry of negatives. I'm using the Curses and taking the -50 hit.
