Who's playing COD4 tonight?

We've been playing more as a clan recently with more members gaming. Currently: Guinness, Zog, Lord Slayer, Bubba, HEADSHOT and myself (EINHANDER). Anyway, Slayer was having some connectivity issues earlier on Friday but fixed 'em! So, he's running Vista and I was curious if you know exactly what you did to get it working correctly?

Well im off to go drink some Beers with the boys. They gave me a late call and im not overly excited about going, But I havent seen them in awhile so It will be nice. I should be on by Midnight .
Well I shut down all programs that didnt need to be running as well as disabled my Norton firewall and that seemed to help a lot.

I'd guess Norton.. but that's just from experience on how Norton picks on some programs that communicate outside the PC.

What Norton are you running Lordy? I've never run into a lag issue like you've been having because of it. I'm guessing its more a Vista thing, but either way hope you can get it figured out. You keep that weather bug running while you play? I'd guess that it'd be more things like that than Norton.

Oh contrair monfraireeee! I too have the jerky gaming event sometimes during heavy events.. like shooting & getting carpet bombed at the same time. I just attributed it to PunkBuster (I don't run any AV software like Norton etc.) or my out-dated CPU. It's not very often that it happens.. but it can last as long as 2 seconds.. but then it's over for a long while without any issues. So.. I dunno what to say. One of the guys in the game one night mentioned defragging your HD.. but I would imagine Slayer does that like a religion.

While Vista isn't as bad per se as MS Millenium.. from what I hear MS will ditch Vista within a year or two after they release the newest version of their next Server 2008. Vista was supposed to be THE next OS to compliment Server 2008, but it appears to have ended up being more of an eye-candy transition between XP and that "after Server 2008" OS. I sat through a full day of lectures to get my 2 full copies of Vista Ultimate w/SP1 from MS. I don't think Vista is bad.. but as you say, it doesn't play nice on all hardware or with all software. As I've said before, I typically do *not* buy or um.. [locate].. a MS OS until they hit SP1 stability. I do believe that Vista SP1 is much improved over Vista but it's not as much of an improvement as XP SP1 was over the original release of XP. My opinion goes that WIN98 Second Edition and XP SP2 are the two best home OS' that Microsoft have ever released to date. I know many people have XP SP3.. but I think that SP2's release hit the mark.

I cannot claim too much on Vista as I've yet to install either edition because I just got a new toy for gaming that sucked my birthday money down the toilet. So, new PC in the spring again.
